CANADIAN BASSET RESCUE NETWORK
Rescue and Placement Service for Basset Hounds
WHAT IS BASSET RESCUE?
Basset Rescue is a non-profit program for purebred Basset Hounds, which finds good
homes for abandoned and unwanted hounds. Our program is supported by The Basset Hound Club of Canada and is completely administered
by volunteers who are Basset Hound Breeders and experienced fanciers. Our goals are to:
rescue abandoned, unwanted, neglected
Bassets;
provide all necessary care, treatment and rehabilitation;
assess the hounds for adopt ability and locate
suitable homes for them; educate the public concerning responsible dog ownership.
WHERE DO THE DOGS COME FROM?
The dogs we rescue are relinquished for a number of reasons: family
relocation, owner death/divorce/illness, a new
baby ... the list goes on
and on. Each Basset entering our program is given a thorough veterinary examination with necessary
treatment, such as: vaccinations, heart worm testing (seasonally determined)spaying/neutering,acute treatment or surgery,
if required.
HOW DO I ADOPT A RESCUED BASSET HOUND?
To be considered as an adopting owner, you must be willing to:
- return the dog to Basset Rescue, if for any reason you can no longer keep it.
- maintain the rescue solely as a
companion and household pet.
- offer necessary veterinary treatment.
- offer fresh water, quality feed, appropriate
sleeping quarters, proper
grooming, exercise and attention.
- ensure a fenced yard or appropriate dog run
COST
A mutually agreed upon sum, subject to individual assessment, will be
determined by all concerned parties. However,
we are grateful for an
initial donation of $200.00.
AGE
All Bassets of any age are accepted into our
program.
WAITING LISTS
We seldom have dogs immediately available, so be prepared to have your name added to our
waiting list. We have a Canada wide Internet
Connection to other Provinces to search for available adopt able Bassets.
When a hound enters the Rescue program, we use information gathered from the previous owner or comments from Shelter staff
and veterinarians along with our impressions during the observation period. Prospective adopters are then decided upon by
criteria that best suit the hound's needs. This criteria includes such things as:
- rural/urban location, size of yard,
experience with dogs, number and ages of children, number and type of other pets, hours available for the dog, etc ...

us only to contact you when a hound becomes available. Upon receipt of your application, you will receive a confirmation letter.
Please note that if you are contacted for consideration of a rescued Basset, all members of the family household would
need to be present at the adoption interview.
